Nationwide spread of New Zealand Tertiary College Health and Wellbeing graduates
New Zealand Tertiary College has capped off a brilliant first year delivering Health and Wellbeing programs by celebrating graduates at a ceremony held at the Auckland campus yesterday.
The college’s inaugural New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) (Level 4) graduates were acknowledged alongside New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3) graduates.
Although the college has campuses in Auckland and Christchurch, students are spread throughout New Zealand as they have flexible study options and the opportunity to fulfil the practical requirements of their programs in their local towns.
This diversity is illustrated through the location of the Academic Excellence Award winners including Keona Morton from Whangarei, Maryanne Painter from Christchurch, Crystal Magee from Te Aroha and Kathryn Heron from Tauranga.
Level 4 graduate Crystal Magee commented, “Coming from the small town of Te Aroha, I was able to study online and work close by. There was so much support from NZTC Online and help was only a phone call away that I didn’t find there was any barrier to me not living in a campus city. I felt 100% supported.”
NZTC’s support of the healthcare sector across New Zealand has been acknowledged by many with healthcare assistants’ core competencies and skills furthered by the college’s flexible programs.
“NZTC is setting the standard and it is my prayer that NZTC grow this initiative to the point where it becomes the benchmark in New Zealand by which health and wellbeing services are delivered to our aged,” said graduate Richard Steveni.
The college’s programs equip students with the skills needed to care for others on a professional or personal basis and they are recognised under the pay equity settlement agreement, giving healthcare professionals upskilling through NZTC the peace of mind that their qualification will result in increased pay.
“After years of research and learning from the health and wellbeing community, NZTC has been honoured to step in and support accessible, flexible and practical programs that meet the needs of a growing care profession. The college is looking forward to welcoming students to commence their studies who have a heart and passion to care for others,” said NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox.
