MEDIA RELEASE MEDIA RELEASE Dec 6 2017 Pt Chev Kindy
Auckland Kindergarten Association is once again sticking by its parents.
There were plans for Pt Chevalier Kindergarten in Auckland to operate a dual-model delivery at the new Walmer Rd site in
2018, offering both kindergarten and Care and Early Learning Centre enrolments, under the Association’s KiNZ arm, and
all on the one premise.
The plans have not been well-received by the community prompting a rethink.
Interim CEO, Pauline Winter, says she has been inundated with calls and emails from Pt Chev parents and other interested
parties since she took on the top job three weeks ago.
“We need to be listening and valuing everyone’s voice and the message was loud and clear from Pt Chev. After discussion
with both the AKA and KiNZ Boards overnight it has been decided that the newly built centre will continue to operate as
a kindergarten.
“There is a lot of history that has got us to this point with the Pt Chev community and we look forward to working
closely with them on the provision of future services at the site.”
Pt Chev Kindergarten moved to the new premise in October. The local school had been signalling to the Ministry of
Education that the school land the kindergarten was using in Walford Rd was needed to service a growing roll. The MoE
purchased land for the new early learning site in 2014.
