Unitec Appoints Interim Chief Executive
Unitec Institute of Technology has announced Alastair Carruthers CNZM will be appointed Interim Chief Executive, replacing Dr Rick Ede who departs at the end of the year.
Mr Carruthers has been a Unitec Council member since November 2014 and has more than 20 years’ experience leading and advising major New Zealand organisations. He was most recently Chief Executive of Kensington Swan Lawyers and Commissioner of the acclaimed New Zealand exhibition Emissaries at the 2017 Venice Biennale.
He was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to arts governance in the 2014 New Year’s honours.
Mr Carruthers will take leave from his Council position until the end of April 2018. He will be based full-time at Unitec’s Mt Albert campus.
Unitec Chair, Dr Lee Mathias, said the recruitment process for a new permanent Chief Executive was underway with an appointment announcement expected in March 2018.
