EduHack: Latin America
The newly formed Latin America Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence (CAPE) and Creative HQ have come together to bring you
the first-ever Latin American EduHack. EduHack provides the opportunity for teachers, parents, career advisors,
educational designers, school trustees, students, community leaders and changemakers to get together and share their
passion for the languages and cultures of Latin America, and connect with our youth.
EduHack: Latin America (www.creativehq.co.nz/eduhack-latin-america) will take place 2 - 3 December in Wellington. The hackathon format provides a space to explore Latin American language
and culture learning in our schools and come up with innovative ways to enhance its impact. Morgan Patterson,
International Languages Exchanges and Pathways says, “EduHack: Latin America will lead our youth to global competence by
innovatively connecting them to Latin America...it will open Latin American doors for young Kiwis to thrive in their
global futures.”
A hackathon allows teams to organically form around new ideas and develop innovative solutions. The teams will focus on
answering these five key questions; How can we share the rich cultures of Latin America here in Aotearoa? How can we
encourage our young learners to take Spanish for NCEA? How can schools better celebrate, enable and sustain language
learning? How can we leverage emerging technologies to introduce unfamiliar regions in world-leading ways? How do we
show our youth that learning other languages can translate to rewarding career paths and the brightest futures?
At the end of the weekend, teams will pitch new solutions in front of a live panel of judges and gain valuable feedback
from key investors, mentors and industry partners. There are prizes up for grabs for the best pitches.

The Latin America CAPE has been created to add a new dimension to the development of New Zealand’s knowledge of Latin
