Simpson Grierson has launched a simple, easy-to-use online health & safety management platform developed specifically for schools to improve greater health and safety compliance, Health & Safety Advisory Services Director Terry Johnson says.

"This product was created to support principals and school boards meet their specific legal obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015.

"Many schools we support were finding it hard keeping up with the new legislation, let alone successfully managing their health & safety," Terry says.

The SchoolSafe platform provides principals and school boards with the structure they need to minimise their personal risk and ensure they are meeting their legal obligations, he says.

The platform can be accessed from multiple devices and keeps all the health and safety documents and activities in one secure place.

Key features of the platform include:

• Best practices for understanding and minimising most common health and safety risks for schools, with critical risk control plans to support their management (eg. education outside of the classroom, drowning, abuse etc).

• A complete health and safety management system with procedures and checklists to help schools achieve its health and safety objectives.

• Checklists and monthly tasks that will help to ensure that necessary procedures are in place and key information is communicated to the relevant stakeholders.

• Three easy-to-use forms that will help schools to keep a record of hazards, incidents, and action items.

SchoolSafe is currently used by six schools. Our health and safety team is creating a similar product for small and medium enterprises.
