Learn about dog safety at Animates

Animates is offering free school holiday workshops on how to best interact with dogs

School holidays are just around the corner, and for the first time, Animates is partnering with ‘Kids Safe with Dogs Charitable Trust’ to educate children on dog safety and how to interact with dogs.

Animates Stores nationwide will be hosting the free, educational workshops on Thursday 5th and 12th of October. Starting at 11am, trained staff will use interactive real life scenarios, using a toy dog, to teach children how to behave around their own dog, and those that they encounter on the street.

The workshop will cover:

o How to approach a dog (when tied up, when eating, when in a car etc.)
o How and where to pat a dog
o How to make eye contact with a dog including best body language to use
o Learning to always ask permission before approaching a dog

“It’s important for children to feel safe around the dogs they encounter, whether at home or out and about. The sessions will teach children the skills and confidence they need to interact with dogs, and teach them about the warning signs,” says Animates National Manager Jacqui Baigent.

“The workshop is a must for parents with children thinking about introducing a furry friend into the family. We’ll cover off the three golden rules – ‘always ask’, ‘where to touch a dog’ and ‘stand like a tree’,” says Jacqui Baigent.

There will also be the opportunity to ask the in-store experts for advice. Children who complete the workshop will take home a free activity book and certificate at the end to proudly display on their wall or fridge.
