Massey University Joins HP48HOURS Filmmaking Competition
Announcing the “Massey HP48 Hour Award” and the launch of Creative Media Production Scholarships
HP48HOURS announces a new partnership with Massey University, which is sponsoring the “Massey HP48HOUR Award” at this
year’s HP48HOURS filmmaking competition. The Award is available to secondary school students entering the HP48HOURS
filmmaking competition. The winner receives a $1000 cash prize. The entries will be judged on technical achievement,
aesthetic quality and storytelling strength.
In addition to the Award, Massey is launching four scholarships for the Bachelor of Creative Media Production degree,
each valued at $6000. The scholarships are to be awarded for students undertaking full-time study commencing Semester 1,
2018. Each scholarship is for one of the four Bachelor of Creative Media Production degree pathways: Film and TV, Game
Development, Animation and VFX, and Web and Interactive Development. More information about eligibility criteria can be
found on the School’s website http://bit.ly/2vnBgHr
In a further enhancement for HP48HOURS, Massey University will also host the competition’s launch and ‘hand-in’ events
for the Wellington region at its striking Te Ara Hihiko building.
Professor Claire Robinson, Pro Vice-Chancellor at the College of Creative Arts at Massey University says: “Student
learning and experience is at the heart of what we do at the College. We focus on studio and project-based learning that
provides a broad range of technical expertise, encourages collaboration, and provides as much real-life experience as
possible before they leave.
“The collaboration with HP48HOURS is a perfect fit with our philosophy and our offering. We really look forward to
meeting with the film crews, viewing the finished products and welcoming four students to a journey of a lifetime within
our Creative Media Production degree,” Professor Robinson said.
Lucas Haley, Creative Media Production Programme Leader says: “The Bachelor of Creative Media Production at Massey
University Wellington is excited to partner with HP48HOURS for the prize and scholarship announcement. Massey sees
HP48HOURS as a vibrant celebration of our industry’s craft and vision, and hopes to foster that industry by supporting
the next generation of filmmakers.”
HP48HOURS event organiser Ant Timpson says: “We get a lot of high school students entering the competition who are
already digital media literate. Massey is at the forefront of teaching interactive and digital media and we’re grateful
that they are enabling us to offer the Massey HP48Hour Award and these great scholarships. It’s an excellent opportunity
to further develop skills in the industry.”
This year sees the continuation of sponsorship by HP, a technology company that has empowered filmmakers and creative
visionaries for more than seven decades. Grant Hopkins, Managing Director, HP New Zealand, says “We are excited to
sponsor the HP48hours to shine a spotlight on the role technology can play in igniting personal storytelling and
unleashing the creator and artist in all of us.”
About the Bachelor of Creative Media Production
The three-year Bachelor of Creative Media Production gives students the skills and creativity to realise their vision in
interactive and digital media. Students work hands-on with projects across video and television production, sound
design, post-production, interactive media development, app and game design, animation, visual effects, and motion
capture. The course takes advantage of Massey University’s extensive industry connections and students benefit from
studying in a city recognised worldwide for its creativity and innovation in contemporary media brands and production.
Using industry standard production facilities, students respond to briefs that combine creative studio practice, linear
and non-linear storytelling, professional practice, events production and portfolio development.
