Choose your learning adventure at Te Papa in the July school holidays

Te Papa’s new innovative learning lab, Hīnātore, is hosting a school holiday learning programme during the July holidays that will see kids creating their own claymation movies, inventing a new musical instrument, building worlds in virtual reality, and developing a game from scratch.

The programme utilises Te Papa’s exhibitions and collections, as well as the digital and immersive technology on offer at Hīnātore including the VR (Virtual Reality) studio, 3D printers, 3D scanners, and touch tables.

Head of Learning Innovation Miri Young says the holiday sessions give kids the chance to let their imaginations flourish in an environment where fun is the first priority.

“Hīnātore is a wonderland for kids with a huge variety of hands-on immersive digital technologies that will engage and inspire participants while they learn. Our Learning Specialists facilitate the sessions that are designed to let kids flex their creative muscles, while supporting learning that is meaningful, challenging and fun,” she says.

The two-week programme is running from July 10 – 21 and is designed for children aged 6 – 12.

The Te Papa Holiday Learning Programme costs $58 per child per day, and each session runs from 10am till 3pm. All required materials are provided, BYO lunch.

Supporting partners of the Hīnātore Learning Lab where the Holiday Learning Programme is being held are Victoria University of Wellington, Staples Advantage, Pelorus Trust and The Lions Foundation.
