Careers Expo for South Canterbury
The Careers Expo at the Southern Events Centre in Timaru on 22 and 23 May brings the region’s tertiary training providers together under one roof, giving learners the chance to ask questions about study pathways and career opportunities.
The event, brought to the community by Ara Institute of Canterbury, offers the chance to talk with tutors from a diverse range of 19 providers including polytechnics, universities and industry training organisations such as Dive Otago Ltd and the Air New Zealand Aviation Institute.
Looking at websites is a great start, but nothing beats meeting the people delivering the programmes, who have first-hand knowledge of pathways to careers in a particular industry. Tertiary training providers strive to update their programmes to deliver the skills that employers need.
Ara has introduced new programmes to the South Canterbury region, including the level 7 Bachelor of Applied Management, with a range of specialities, and Computing for Free hubs in Ashburton, Timaru and Oamaru.
Ara, which means pathway, specialises in creating pathways to success for all learners. There are foundation programmes to get learners started or professional development options for upskilling or career changes. Ara staff from programmes in trades, computing, nursing, midwifery and allied health, early childhood education, business, and hair and beauty will be on hand to talk to prospective students at the Expo.
