Queen Margaret College Opens New Playground

Queen Margaret College was a hive of excitement this week at the opening of its new and improved Junior School playground.

The school was transformed with balloons, music, cupcakes and even a bubble machine for the opening ceremony, which was held on Tuesday, 2 May.

Parents and the wider school community, including representatives from the Parents’ Association and the Old Girls’ Association, joined students in celebrating this special occasion.

Principal Carol Craymer gave a brief presentation about the history of the playground, from its humble beginnings in 1947 as a shallow swimming pool to the construction of Neptune playground in 2008 and its further reincarnation in 2017.

After the presentation, everyone moved to the playground for the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon by Head Prefect Georgia Taylor and student Brynn Shelbourne.

The Junior School children were then given their first opportunity to try out the playground, something many have been anticipating for weeks.

Year 6 student Jessica Teh described the new playground as “enchanting and magical” while her class mate Divya Srinivasa said she stood in awe as she took her first steps into the playground.

“There was so much to choose from but my eyes were drawn towards the bright blue slide,” Divya said.

The new playground and courtyard includes an improved climbing frame, two new slides and additional playground equipment.

Construction began in 2016 and was partially funded by the Queen Margaret College Parents’ Association and the Queen Margaret College Foundation.

The College is also building an onsite boarding hostel, which is planned to open January 2018.
