Fund provides $120,000 boost for agricultural study and Christian camps
Presbyterian Support Central has awarded more than $120,000 in Ann Sinclair Charitable Trust funding to individuals and organisations across the lower North Island.
The trust provides financial support for farming and agriculture students, and Christian camps.
This year $67,000 was distributed to 27 farming and agriculture students, while $56,650 was distributed to 21 organisations either running Christian camps or supporting young people to attend Christian camps.
The funds distributed totaled $123,650, with the successful applicants receiving between $1,000 and $5,000 each.
The Ann Sinclair Charitable Trust was started by Ann Sinclair, whom received ownership of her family farm and wanted it to be used to teach future New Zealand farmers, explains Presbyterian Support Central trust administrator Jackie Wierenga.
“The trust aims to help students who may need extra assistance due to health or financial concerns, or who would otherwise not readily have access to tertiary study for farming,” says Jackie.
“As New Zealand’s largest industry, it’s important for young farmers to get a good education and the Ann Sinclair Charitable Trust aims to support future farmers by helping with the costs of their tertiary studies.”
Ann Sinclair Charitable Trust grants can also be used to assist with travel, accommodation or education fees, running Christian camps and supporting young people to attend Christian camps in the Presbyterian Support Central area, including Wellington, Horowhenua, Wairarapa, Manawatu, Whanganui and Taranaki.
The Ann Sinclair Charitable Trust applications close on 31 October every year. Visit www.psc.org.nz for more information or to apply.
