University of Auckland reinforces lead in university subject rankings
** Embargoed until 7:01am Wednesday 8 March 2017** The University of Auckland’s standing as the country’s leading university is further reinforced in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject, with the University judged best in New Zealand in 37 of the 40 subjects for which it is ranked.
In subject rankings issued today, the University of Auckland is rated the best in New Zealand in each of the broad subject (faculty) rankings, including 25th in the world in Arts and Humanities.
The University features in the top 50 in the world in 16 subjects (up from 15 last year), including two subjects in the top 20.
Education this year enters the top 20, joining Archaeology which has been among the world’s 20 best for two years and improved on its 2016 results.
The University of Auckland was ranked 16th in the world in Archaeology, 20th in Education, 29th in English Language and Literature, 33rd in Psychology, 34th in Geography and in Anatomy and Physiology, 36th in Law and 37th in Accounting and Finance.
University of Auckland Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stuart McCutcheon says: “These rankings are outstanding and add further strength to the University of Auckland’s status as New Zealand’s leading university.
“They also underline the calibre and comprehensive nature of our teaching and research and the growing recognition this is gaining in New Zealand and globally.”
Now in its sixth year, the annual QS World University Rankings by Subject is a comprehensive guide to a range of popular subject areas. QS ranks universities worldwide based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research citations, with weightings tailored to each subject.
