Early childhood curriculum update welcomed by association

Today’s announcement by Minister Parata to widen the consultation of the draft update of Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s early
childhood education (ECE) curriculum, is welcomed by Te Rito Maioha Early Childhood New Zealand (ECNZ).
‘As we celebrate 20 years of our highly regarded curriculum we are pleased to receive the draft update, something that
we have been requesting for some time. It’s encouraging to see this coming to fruition,’ said Kathy Wolf, Chief
Executive of ECNZ.
The draft update of Te Whāriki is out for consultation until 16 December. This is an opportunity for all educators,
including our primary colleagues, to determine whether the proposed refreshed curriculum retains what we hold dear yet
meets the needs of today’s children in a robust and meaningful manner.
ECNZ will work with its ECE members ahead of the submission deadline and provide a response. We also encourage groups
and individuals to respond to the Ministry.
‘I encourage as many within and outside of the sector, to seize this window of opportunity to contribute to the update
of our treasured and globally renowned ECE curriculum,’ said Ms Wolfe.
