NOURISHING OUR COMMUNITIES
November’s Spotlight address, the second in a series hosted by the Public Health Association’s Hawke’s Bay branch and EIT, will focus on healthy eating.
Open to all, the free presentation is titled Nourishing our Communities: How can these inspirational stories help create healthy affordable food environments accessible to all.
One hour long, it will feature a You Tube film clip with Millie Ormond advising on cheap and healthy family dinners, addresses by chief executive Ana Apatu and Alys Edwards from the U-Turn Trust and Lisa Arnold from Bostock New Zealand Organic Orchards, who will explain the company’s philosophy on fostering community relationships and sustainable growing practices.
More than 7000 people follow Millie’s Cheap and Healthy Family Dinners Facebook page. She promotes a healthy eating message to families and at venues such as the Clive Rugby Club and the Clive School canteen.
Alys Edward will explain how the U-Turn Trust’s Gardens in Homes programme helped during a period of illness.
Long associated with sustainable growing practices and an exporter of premium produce for over 30 years, Bostock’s supports the trust’s flagship project, Te Aranga marae’s garden in Flaxmere. The garden continues to draw people together to celebrate healthy eating, sustainability and community gardening.
The presentation will be held in EIT’s Lecture Theatre 1 at 12pm on Wednesday, 23 November.
