NZTC scholarship enables high school leavers

New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) is offering high school leavers the opportunity to begin studying towards an early childhood education qualification with a limited time scholarship opportunity.

School leavers finishing secondary study in 2016 can save more than $4000 in tuition fees towards their first year of study.

Recipients of the NZTC School Leavers Scholarship will pay only $1500 towards their initial year of a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education), Certificate in Early Childhood Teaching (Level 6) or Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 5).

“We wanted to give secondary school leavers passionate about caring for our youngest generation an opportunity to begin studying towards an early childhood education qualification with this scholarship,” said NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox.

“The scholarship coincides with NZTC’s 35th anniversary in 2017 and we wanted to do something big to celebrate. We hope that school leavers grab this opportunity with both hands.”

School leaver Natasha Humphrey has been interested in teaching and caring for young children since she was five years old. She has utilised the scholarship and enrolled in a Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 5) and says the opportunity has alleviated the financial pressure on her family.

“Since my parents are supporting three children right now, including me, on only one work salary, I didn’t want them to have to worry about how I’m going to afford to study. The School Leavers Scholarship allows me to find my own way to pay for my education,” said Humphrey.

The scholarship is available for domestic students who begin study before 27 February 2017.
