Whitireia ranks among top tertiary education providers in the country

Whitireia Community Polytechnic has performed strongly across the board in the Tertiary Education Commission’s latest education performance report published last week.

The report shows Whitireia is the only Institute of Technology or Polytechnic (ITP) to rank above the median rate for the sector in all four Education Performance Indicators (EPIs), which include qualification completion, student retention, course completion and progression to further study. It continues to be number one in overall student retention for the ITP sector and is an incredibly close second in course completions.

Acting Chief Executive Mark Hewitson says the results are very pleasing and highlight the excellent work being done by Whitireia staff to help students reach their potential.

“Our student support services and learning resources are exceptional. Whitireia offers fantastic study environments and this is evident in these results.”

Whitireia is celebrating its 30th birthday this year, and the polytechnic continues to go from strength to strength. From its humble beginnings on the shores of Porirua Harbour, it has grown to become the tertiary institution of choice for almost 8000 students, across contemporary campuses in Wellington, Porirua, Kāpiti and Auckland.

The TEC publishes information on the performance of tertiary education organisations (TEOs) based on agreed educational performance indicators. Their annual Educational Performance Indicator (EPI) reports are designed to help TEOs manage and monitor their own performance and to deliver on their agreed tertiary education services.
