SIR RAY AVERY HARNESSES THE EXTRAORDINARY VALUE OF BRIGHT YOUNG MINDS
Today Unitec Institute of Technology signed a partnership agreement with Sir Ray Avery’s development agency, Medicine Mondiale, to work with students and fast track research and development and bring new products into the marketplace.
Students from Unitec’s Bachelor of Creative Enterprise will apply their design thinking around the next iteration of Medicine Mondiale’s first generation LifePod neonatal incubator as part of a commercialisation program developing real products for real customers.
“I am confident that if we nurture and harness the imagination of the bright young minds at Unitec we can establish an innovation highway and make New Zealand the ultimate innovation destination,” says Sir Ray Avery, “for New Zealand to compete on the world innovation stage we need to bridge the gap between academic learning organisations and our established commercialisation pipelines,”
Sir Ray Avery says his collaboration with Unitec is already paying dividends with the development of novel hi-tech noise cancelling technology which will be incorporated into the Mondiale Lifepod incubators.
Unitec Head of Creative Industries, Dr Vanessa Byrnes, is delighted with the partnership. “Sir Ray Avery embodies the passion, skill and inquiry which we are developing with our students and signals to the New Zealand business community the value of practical applied design thinkers and the role they can play in changing the world.”
