Award winning author to host Writers’ Workshops for children
Award winning children’s author Brian Falkner is to be the key presenter, guide and mentor at a Writers’ Workshop for
children from around the country that will take place at Kristin School later this month.
Mr Falkner was just last month awarded the Young Adult Fiction Award at the New Zealand Book Awards, which are
administered by the New Zealand Book Council. He has previously a winner of the Sir Julius Vogel Award for a Young Adult
Science Fiction book.
Mr Falkner’s latest award is for his alternative history, Battlesaurus: Rampage at Waterloo. He has now written 12 books for children and young adults and is an engaging, highly sought-after speaker in schools,
and at literary festivals and conferences.
The Writers’ Workshop at Kristin will be an opportunity to improve writing skills under the professional tutorage of
this accomplished writer and educator. Kristin teachers will also support the learning and pastoral aspects of the
workshop. It is a chance for students to share writing experiences in a multi-age classroom with other young writers
from throughout the country. It is also an opportunity to find and make friends, and to write with like-minded people.
The Workshop includes a balance of quiet individual writing, collaborative writing, whole group interactive tuition
sessions and open sharing of work. Young writers all receive individual feedback and guidance on their writing from Mr
Brian Falkner.
Two workshops are available, for children 4-6 and 7-10. Details are available on the Kristin website here.
