The University of Auckland has been recognised internationally as New Zealand’s leading university in the latest rankings published this week by QS World University Rankings.
In the 2016 QS World University Rankings released today, the University was placed 81, up from its 2015 position of 82. No other New Zealand university was ranked in the top 100.
The rankings underline the strength of the University’s employer and academic reputation. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stuart McCutcheon says: “Given the growing influence of the international university rankings, it is important for New Zealand to have highly-ranked universities. This will help ensure that high quality researchers and academics of international standing continue to want to come to this country so that our young New Zealanders benefit from a truly world-class education.
“We are focused on achieving a high-level of excellence and this is a great result for the University and the country.”
The annual rankings are based on six factors: academic and employer reputation, staff-student ratios, research citations and the proportion of international staff and students.
“As New Zealand’s and Australia’s most innovative university we provide a rich source of innovation and skilled graduates to industry and to our wider society”, adds Professor McCutcheon.
In the inaugural Reuters Top 75:
Asia’s Most Innovative Universities rankings, announced
last week, the University was placed 27th, ahead of the
leading Australian universities.
The QS 2016 rankings of
the other New Zealand universities (with 2015 rankings in
brackets) are: Otago, 169 (173); Canterbury, 214 (211);
Victoria, 228 (229); Waikato, 324 (338); Massey, 340 (337);
Lincoln, 343 (373); AUT, 441- 450 (481-490).
