'You can't fund a new intervention strategy if you don't add new funding!,' said Iain Taylor, President of the New Zealand Principals' Federation today.
Taylor was responding to the Minister's announcement to apply special education funding to children under five who present with special needs, but without increasing the overall funding levels.
'To suggest that you can take the money from one set of children with special needs and just apply it to a new set of children is not only unfair but unethical,' said Taylor. 'I would expect a very strong reaction from every parent with a school age special needs child if that happens,' he said.
'Early intervention is a good idea!' said Taylor. 'It's good enough to be fully funded.'
