Ngāti Pāhauwera Education Grants Seeing Fruition
Ngāti Pāhauwera Development Trust would like to congratulate three Ngāti Pāhauwera wāhine toa who recently graduated
with their degrees: Victoria Wihape – Bachelor in Social Work (Te Wānanga o Aotearoa ), Aroha Moeau – Bachelor in Social
Work (Te Wānanga o Aotearoa) and Ripeka Kaipuke – Masters of Indigenous Studies (Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi)
The Ngāti Pāhauwera Development Trust through its Manaaki Committee, are pleased that the education grants provided to
Victoria and Aroha have supported them both through their studies.
In the 2013/2014 financial year the Trust made its inaugural distribution of Educational Grants available to its 7,000
beneficiaries and has been doing so since with the funding pool growing each financial year. To date the Trust has been
able to provide approximately 167 grants spanning tertiary, secondary and Community initiatives totaling approximately
$440,000.00.
Lady Tureiti Moxon the Chair of the Manaaki Committee and Trustee of the Ngāti Pāhauwera Development Trust since 2008
said “The Trust’s overall vision is ‘Te Oranganui o Ngāti Pāhauwera” or the prosperity and health of Ngāti Pāhauwera.
These grants provide a practical way of assisting our members to achieve their educational and employment goals which is
consistent with our vision. By providing financial support we hope to take some of the financial pressures off our
students to enable them to concentrate on achieving their educational aspirations.”
Lady Moxon continues “It is fantastic to see the realisation of the work that has been in progress since the inception
of the Manaaki Committee. We invite Ngāti Pāhauwera whānau to register with the Trust and apply for grants when they
become available. The Trust’s aim is to ensure a prosperous future for our tamariki and mokopuna. We are proud of the
achievements of these wāhine toa graduates and wish them all the very best in their chosen fields. Their success is our
success as whānau, hāpu and iwi. Nō reira, kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui”.
