Now Crowdfunding: Kamp Kaitiaki - Social Wellness and Self Discovery weekenders for youth

Kamp Kaitiaki is a safe weekend away for youth aged 12-15 to engage in workshops that promote self management, peer
support and protection of the environment. The "Kamps" are run in a set of 5, with wellbeing themes and underpinned by
Te Ao Maori values.
These "Kamps" have been created to support rural living youth who reside in the Far North where social opportunities to
connect and bond outside of school can be rare. By the end of the 5 "Kamps, they will be encouraged and supported to
co-create programmes and activities around the issues that affect them in the Far North. The goal is to help develop
young adults who are more connected and engaged in the future community, who can manage themselves, support one another
and protect the environment.
Doubtless Bay
For the first series we have targeted young women of Maori descent aged 11-15 who live rurally in the Doubtless Bay area
in the Far North. We have chosen this group as a focus group to discover information around role modelling and learning
engagement preferences with the forward thinking in mind that these girls will be affective role models for girls
younger then themselves whom are within our target age group of 8-15 years old.
For delivery we have chosen a team of 5 facilitators to role model, mentor and support the girls by delivering workshops
that aim to meet the cultural and basic needs of the group, wrapped and based on holistic model approaches such as Te
Whare Tapa Wha and Maslow's Hiearchy of Needs.
We have already carried out 2 of the 5 "Kamps" and are now looking to host our 3rd Kamp on the 24th-26th June. The
following videos are to inform you of what we got up to leading up to, during and some reflections of the "Kamps" that
we have carried out so far:

Myself, Jamie Emery, as a youth mentor and currently studying for a Bachelor in Applied Social Work to better position
myself to serve and support the youth who reside in the Far North.
Christina Leef who is currently immersed in Maori entreprenuership and Indigenous Inspiring speaking events.
Dayna Carter who is part of the amazing team of Lifehack facilitators who specialise in social enterprise project
development and well-being.
Shanna Butler is a youth mentor whose knowledge of Taonga Takaro (traditional Maori games) will be used to assist in
developing a wide range of skills mentally and physically
Carolinn Stott has 15 years experience as an educator and has supported many community intiatives that are directed
towards youth, while also being a mum, she has a good understanding of the social barriers that northland kids face
today.
