MTG Hawke’s Bay finalist in Service IQ 2016 New Zealand Museum Awards
MEDIA RELEASE, 26 April 2016
Museums Aotearoa have just announced the finalists in the Service IQ 2016 New Zealand Museum Awards and MTG Hawke’s Bay features as a finalist in three out of the ten award categories.
MTG Hawke’s Bay are finalists for two exhibitions in the categories for regional museums: Tēnei Tonu – Regional Taonga Maori; Talanoa: Colloquies of the unrecognised worker – Regional Art; and also for Pin Wall in the category of Best Museum Project.
Museums Aotearoa Executive Director Phillipa Tocker says selecting the finalists in the annual awards was a challenge due to the high quality and number of entries.
“What really stood out was the depth of the talent and originality in our museums and galleries,” says Tocker.
“The sector is in a very exciting place right now, and whether you are visiting a gallery or museum in one of our major cities or you are in the regions, you will find exhibitions and programmes that challenge and entertain you and encourage you to think about the world around you in new ways.”
This year’s judging panel comprises University of Auckland’s Dr Michelle Dickinson, New Zealand Portrait Gallery acting director Helen Kedgley, Tauranga City Council’s Cultural Heritage Manager Dean Flavell and Dr Bronwyn Labrum, Head of New Zealand and Pacific Cultures at Te Papa.
MTG Hawke’s Bay Director Laura Vodanovich says that she is excited to learn that MTG Hawke’s Bay is a finalist in multiple categories.
“I’m thrilled for our team that their work has been recognised by such a distinguished line-up of judges – it really shows the quality of exhibitions and programmes they are putting together for our different audiences,” says Vodanovich.
The winners will be announced on Wednesday 18 May during the inaugural Museums Australasia conference which runs from 16–18 May 2016 in Auckland.
