Area school teachers to vote on settlement
PPTA and NZEI Te Riu Roa have settled the Area School Teachers Collective Agreement (ASTCA) – subject to members ratifying it early next term.
The settlement includes a 2% salary increase each year for the first two years and an average of 2.5% for a third.
The pay increases will be backdated to 2 March with two further annual increases on that date in 2017 and 2018.
Should the settlement be ratified it will be retrospectively effective as of 8 April.
The Ministry of Education has also agreed to pay members’ Education Council practising certificate fees for three years, increase the number of area school sabbaticals, significantly increase the second level of the Maori Immersion Teachers’ Allowance (MITA) and include a third step to the allowance, along with other minor improvements.
“This is a good settlement for area school teachers”, PPTA president Angela Roberts said.
“The minister of education has talked about raising the status of the teaching profession and, while this doesn’t get us all the way there, it is a positive start.”
