Kāpiti school students make a splash at inter-school swimming sports

Kāpiti school children made a splash at the Coastland Aquatics Centre this week at the annual inter-school swimming sports.

More than 300 children from 12 primary schools took part in a series of swimming events on Tuesday [8 March].

Recreation Services Manager Brent Harvey said it was great to be involved in what proved to be a fun day for Kāpiti kids.

“We tried to give the children a real sense of taking part in a quality swimming tournament and used tools like the electronic timing equipment for them,” he said.

“The day was a lot of fun for us and hopefully for the schools involved too.”

The event was run with support from Raumati Swimming Club, Paraparaumu College’s year 10 sports ambassadors and Swimming Wellington.

“Having the different sports clubs, older school students and community groups all pitch in alongside our team at the Aquatic Centre contributed to the overall success of the day,” Mr Harvey said.

Paraparaumu School Principal Steven Caldwell said it was a fantastic day and the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“The facility looked great and everything went smoothly. Thanks to the help of staff and volunteers, the children took part in a quality event.”

Raumati Beach School claimed top sport on the podium with a total of 812 points, with Kapanui School second with 675 points and then Paekākāriki School third on 501 points.
