ERO report raises quality issues in early childhood
education
An Education Review Office report on early childhood education shows that a significant number of services are in breach of important regulations and this is having an impact on quality.
NZEI National President Louise Green says this is another indication of the way the Government’s education reforms and lack of funding have affected quality in early childhood education.
The findings showed that 17 percent of services were not up to date with their responsibilities or were “not managing them well” including in areas such as police vetting, teacher registration and outdated policies.
“These results back up other reports and we’re now seeing a clear picture emerging of just how the 'quantity over quality' approach is affecting the education of our young children.
“Children will continue to be put at risk while the Government continues its under-funding of early childhood education.”
