Education Council Strikes Teacher off Register
A male teacher has been struck off the teachers' register and his female teacher partner censured for serious misconduct after three days of hearings by the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Education Council.
Mr Johnston said the only option, in this case, was to censure and deregister him.
He said the actions of the female teacher constituted serious misconduct, but there were a number of mitigating factors. Being censured means there will be a formal notification of censure on the teachers register.
The charges brought by the Complaints Assessment Committee of the Education Council alleged an improper relationship between the two teachers and a 13 year - old girl.
The girl has since died and her death is the now the subject of a coronial enquiry.
The teachers involved were partners but did not teach at the same school.
Interim name suppression applies to allow the defendants to appeal the decision.
