Scholarships for Bay students
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic is delighted to announce the Secondary School Achiever Scholarship winners for 2016. The
Polytechnic received a large number of high-quality applications from 15 different colleges around the Bay of Plenty.
Criteria for selection were based on a broad range of applicants’ achievements and personal characteristics:
demonstrating leadership potential; cultural, sporting or academic achievements; and contribution to school and/or
community.
Dr Amanda Torr, Academic Director and head of the selection panel at the Polytechnic, was excited by the caliber of
applicants.
“It was fantastic to see so many high achieving students apply this year which made our job very difficult. In the end
we increased the number of scholarships given from 18 to 21 to acknowledge these students and what they are
accomplishing both in and out of school.”
“The scholarship recipients have gone above and beyond what is required of them, achieving high standards across a
number of areas, all while navigating life as a teenager. As an institution it is our great pleasure to reward and
support these students and give back to our local community.”
“We are privileged to have these outstanding students join us on campus and we know that these recipients will be role
models for all of our students.”
Scholarships were awarded to recipients at each school’s Senior School Prize Giving. With a total pool of $63,000,
recipients received $3,000 dollars towards their first year of study as well as one-on-one career counselling sessions.
