How Nobel Prize Laureates are selected

How Nobel Prize winners are selected is the topic of a free public lecture at the University of Auckland this month.

The Nobel Prize is governed by rules and procedures following the final Will of Alfred Nobel, who died in 1896, leaving a substantial fortune.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is responsible for awarding the Noel Prize in Physics and Chemistry, as well as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel.

In this free public lecture, Professor Joseph Nordgren of Sweden’s Uppsala University, a former Chairman of the Physics Nobel Committee, discusses the way the laureate selection is done including procedures to engage the scientific community in the evaluation work.

He will also give an account for the procedures associated with the conferment of the prize.

This free public lecture is on 9 November from 4pm to 5pm at the Owen G Glenn Building, 12 Grafton Road, Auckland. Lecture Theatre, Level 0, 260-092 (OGGB3).
