Weltec Engineering Qualifications

WELTEC ENGINEERING QUALIFICATIONS ACHIEVE INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

Graduates from WelTec’s School of Engineering will now have their qualifications officially recognised globally.

WelTec has been formally recognised by an independent panel convened by the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) – New Zealand’s professional body for engineers –as having qualifications that meet international standards. The NZ Diploma in Engineering and the Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree have been successfully recognised as meeting the requirements of two benchmark international accords. WelTec’s Engineering Degree has been accepted for recognition within the Sydney Accord and the Engineering Diploma within the Dublin Accord.

Chief Executive Chris Gosling says, “Achieving this world class status means our engineering degree qualification and our graduates are recognised by nine individual member countries who are party to the Sydney Accord and our diploma is recognised by seven member countries who have joined the Dublin Accord. Graduates will now have their WelTec qualifications recognised around the world which really enhances the mobility of our alumni.”

“These Accords are the gold standard test for technologist and technician engineering qualifications and I am very pleased the School of Engineering has been recognised by their professional body in this way,” says Chris Gosling.

Engineering Head of School Graham Carson says,” Our engineering qualifications are recognised nationally however as many of our students are looking to gain work experience and further their careers overseas it is very important that they can work as engineers around the world. Now our graduates can show their WelTec qualification to prospective employers in member countries and those employers will recognise these qualifications as equivalent as per the Sydney or Dublin Accord.

IPENZ Chief Executive Susan Freeman-Greene notes that engineering is an area of recognised skills shortage in New Zealand, “Growing our engineering capability is a key part of the government’s strategy to transform New Zealand into a high tech, innovation-led economy and WelTec has a key role to play in the Wellington region. The national and international recognition of WelTec’s qualifications through IPENZ means students know they will be equipping themselves with the right skills for exciting and rewarding careers in New Zealand and overseas.”
