Women of Influence to Present at Rangi Ruru
New Zealand’s first female Prime Minister is to lead a Spring speaker series at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School.
The leading Christchurch girls’ school promises ‘An education that will inspire, challenge and empower’ and that is clearly evident in the upcoming speakers’ series which is part of a programme designed to present inspiring role models to young women.
Next Tuesday 30 October, Dame Jenny Shipley will discuss the qualities girls need to thrive and lead in the future in her presentation entitled “Creating and celebrating opportunities for girls”.
As New Zealand’s 36th Prime Minister, Dame Jenny was in office from 8 December 1997 – 5 December 1999 and the only female leader of the Nation al Party to date. Today she is a professional director, advisor and keynote speaker with a special interest in mega trends in business, economic and social development opportunities globally. A patron of the Australasian Alliance of Girls’ Schools, she is a strong advocate of empowering young women.
Dame Jenny will be followed in the speaker series by one of New Zealand’s most successful businesswomen and Rangi Ruru alumna, Sarah Robb O’Hagan. At 43 years of age, Sarah heads one of the world’s premier fitness companies Equinox, and has recently been featured in the Wall Street Journal. From the title of her upcoming book “Extreme You – Bringing All of You to All You Do”, Sarah will demonstrate for our young leaders of the future, how to find and grab opportunity with both hands.
Principal Julie Moor says that one of the school’s greatest responsibilities as an educator is to ensure that young women are well equipped for the world beyond school.
“It is a strength of our network that we can give our girls and the wider community the opportunity to listen to and learn from influential and inspirational female leaders,” said Ms Moor.
Dame Jenny Shipley will present in the school’s new Merivale Lane Theatre on 20 October and Sarah Robb O’Hagan will follow in the Gibson Centre on 5 November with. Tickets are available online at rangiruru.school.nz
