Entreprenurial Teen Named New Zealand's Favourite Future Fashionista
Seventeen year old school girl Abby Button from Christchurch has today been announced as the winner of Westfield New Zealand’s inaugural Young Stylist competition, giving her a once in a lifetime opportunity to be propelled into the fashion industry.
Youth stylist winner Button will now embark on a one year Westfield styling boot camp mentored by leading New Zealand stylists including Luke Bettesworth, Stephanie Rumble and Leonie Barlow. During the mentorship programme Button will learn the ropes, front events and share her knowledge with the nation.
Kiwi youth across the country entered the youth stylist competition by uploading a video to the Westfield website to demonstrate why they should be New Zealand’s next fashionista. All the entries were whittled down to the top 4 candidates who travelled around the country on a roadshow, styling models on the runway to win the hearts of teens across the country in a public vote to determine the overall winner.
To complement this fashion experience, Button will also be able to practice her knowledge on her own wardrobe with a prize of $5,000 worth of Westfield Gift Cards.
“I’ve always wanted to be a stylist and this opportunity is everything I could have dreamed of,” says Button.
“Clothing is the way I express myself so I love the idea that I can help others by giving them tips on how they can feel better in what they wear to feel confident in their own skin,” she adds.
The love for the fashion industry has always been a passion for Button who runs a clothing business One Second Dresses from her home in Papanui offering locals the opportunity to rent dresses and formal wear from her boutique.
Westfield’s shopping centre National Promotions Manager, Rochelle Gray, says “We’re thrilled to be able to give Abby this opportunity to learn and develop within the fashion industry, something she is very passionate about.”
“We have no doubt she will be a great inspiration for other aspiring youth stylists across the country,” adds Gray.
Button will be alongside stylists in Westfield’s Fashion Collective which offers leading fashion advice to New Zealanders across the country including new season tips and tricks, personal styling sessions, group styling sessions, colour consultations and shopping tours.
