Polytechnic to celebrate with community
Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP) is throwing open its doors to the public on Saturday 12 September and celebrating its place in the local community.
Local residents won’t want to miss the TPP Celebration Day, with live music, entertainment, demonstrations and great prizes up for grabs. Celebration Day will run from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 12 September at the Polytechnic’s Greymouth Campus.
TPP General Manager West Coast Operations Rob Van Lent says everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.
“At TPP we are aware of and grateful for our special position within our West Coast community, both as one of the Coast’s significant entities and as an education and training provider. This year we wanted to hold something a little bit different to a standard “open day”, celebrating who we are and what we do with the residents of our wider community.”
“We welcome all members of the community to come along and participate in a wide range of activities and talk to the TPP team. Present and future students, as well as parents and others, will have ample opportunity to talk to tutors, find out what is going on and what’s being offered – now, and into the future. We’ll also have demonstrations that showcase what our students get up to at TPP – from a Trades ‘Olympiad’ to a robotics display from the IT team.
“We’ll be showing the community just what it is we do here at TPP and offering them the opportunity to get involved. Beyond that, we want to show our residents a fun time, which they are sure to find with live entertainment, competitions, a free BBQ and games for the kids.”
Visitors to the Celebration Day can participate in a “Passport” competition, collecting stamps from various displays to be in with a chance to win great prizes, including an iPad. They will also be able to view the new trades workshop under construction and take a look at the house built by our carpentry students and is to be offered to the public through a charity auction.
