Music at Unitec
Certificate in Music (Introductory) at Unitec
Applications are open for semester 2, 2015
Applications are now open for Unitec’s Certificate in Music (Introductory) starting on July 27. The mid-year entry
offers an opportunity for students who wish to study music more intensively or those that have a passion for
music-making but are no longer engaged within the secondary school environment.
The Certificate in Music (Introductory) is a one-semester programme at level 3 that develops students’ skills in music
theory and musicianship, composition, collaborative performance and music technologies. It also develops research skills
and understandings of musical history and styles, and equips students for higher-level study. Students that complete the
Certificate in Music (Introductory) are eligible for automatic entry into Unitec’s two-year Diploma in Contemporary
Music.
To be eligible for admission to the Certificate, students must have 8 credits in NCEA English Level 1. Applicants must
also attend a short interview and demonstrate their music-making ability (either via recording or in performance).
Applicants do not need to have studied music at school.
All classes take place at the School of Performing and Screen Arts at Unitec’s Mt Albert Campus.
