New Chief Executive Thrilled at Double Gold Awards Finalist Achievement
New Chief Executive of WelTec and Whitireia Chris Gosling is thrilled the Wellington Regional School of Construction and the NZ Film and Television School have made the finals of the Wellington Gold Awards. “This result demonstrates the quality and diversity of professional and vocational education provided to the region by WelTec and Whitireia”, he said.
Announced at Te Wharewaka o Poneke on Thursday evening, The Wellington Regional School of Construction which is based at Petone qualified for the highly sought after Supporting Gold - services sector and infrastructure providers category whilst the NZ Film and Television School, a subsidiary of Whitireia New Zealand Ltd, has qualified as a finalist in the prestigious Creative Gold section.
“The NZ Film and Television School punches well above its weight nationally and internationally training film-makers from around New Zealand and the world. Wellington is the film capital of New Zealand contributing 79 percent annually of all feature film revenue across New Zealand in 2014. The NZ Film and Television School is a key part of this thriving sector with close ties to film industry leaders. An extraordinary range of talent delivers applied industry-based training from the NZ Film and Television School located in the heart of New Zealand’s film capital and I am very proud of the achievements of students with an overall pass rate of 93% since the Film School opened its doors 15 years ago.
“The Wellington Regional School of Construction which opened in March this year is not only a stand-out facility it is a place where the goals and aspirations of young people are realised through the achievement of a tertiary level qualification. Success rates in terms of educational achievement are amongst the highest in New Zealand at 92%. Through the delivery of the highly successful Tamaiti Whangai Maori mentoring programme Maori students achieve 94% success.
“Our connectedness to industry through projects such as the Wellington Northern Corridor and other major infrastructure projects and residential builds across Wellington has a major impact on Wellington’s and the national economy.
“We provide a skilled workforce at all levels of the construction industry (pre-trade through to construction management) and this means we are a significant contributor to the economic and social well-being of the communities and industries we serve,” says Chris Gosling.
“It’s fantastic both areas of our delivery have reached the finals for the Wellington Gold Awards and as Chief Executive of both I’m planning on celebrating double-Gold wins in a few weeks’ time when the winners are announced,” says Chris Gosling.
