Scholarship for Whanganui UCOL Business student
Thirty one year old Whanganui UCOL New Zealand Diploma in Business student Sarah Reed has been awarded a scholarship for 2015 study by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Sarah completed the Certificate in Business Studies last year and is now at the halfway point of the two year full-time Diploma programme.
The scholarship will provide Sarah $1,500 towards study fees.
Last week at a Whanganui UCOL prize-giving ceremony Sarah also picked up the Top First year Accounting Student Award, and the Top Law Student award shared with fellow student James (Lux) Adams.
Born and bred in Whanganui, after leaving school at 16 Sarah says she worked a range of jobs where she gained insight about how businesses work. “You’ve got a mechanical workshop and you’ve got the one office lady who does everything. Through my enrolment conversations I discovered that Business Studies could give me that range of skills.”
Sarah did well in the Financial Services and Accounting side of the Certificate, so decided to take on the Accounting pathway in the Diploma in Business.
“The achievements in my study so far have been a real highlight. I’ve been able to secure job interviews and my goal now is to secure part-time work to complement my studies.”
As well as looking after her two young children, Sarah’s plans for the future involve completing her Diploma and an Accounting Technician Certificate.
“I would also consider a Bachelor’s degree, I’d like to become a Chartered Accountant.”
