Whitireia to host exhibition by Chinese lacquer painter
Chinese lacquer painter Su Xing is bringing a selection of his art to exhibit at the Whitireia Porirua campus in November.
This exhibition is coming to New Zealand with the backing of the Chinese Government and is an opportunity to showcase and share this unique art form with New Zealand as part of a cultural exchange programme.
A world renowned artist, Su Xing has had his works exhibited in many countries and is widely known in China as a top lacquer painter. He graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1985, majoring in lacquer painting. Throughout his career to date he has been awarded a number of art literary prizes from his home country.
Whitireia is proud to be partnering with Su Xing and the Chinese Government in bringing this exhibition to Porirua said Kaye Jujnovich, Dean, Faculty of Arts at Whitireia. “This exhibition is being made possible due to strong links and established relationships we have with the Arts Universities in the Guangdong province in China.” Su Xing works closely with a number of these universities in his role as Deputy Chairman of the Guangzhou Artists Association and as visiting Professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
This exhibition provides a great opportunity to promote our Visual Arts and Design students, tutors and programmes to the international art world as well said Jujnovich.
The exhibition opens on Friday 7 November at 6pm in the Wikitoria Katene Building at the Whitireia Porirua campus. It will be open to the public from 8 - 10 November, between 10am and 4pm daily. Entry to this exhibition is free.
