Winners of the National Beekeepers Association School Video Competition Announced
September is Bee Aware Month and to celebrate the National Beekeepers Association has invited New Zealand primary schools to create their own unique video showing the importance of bees and how we can all help them survive.
Bees contribute more than $5 billion annually to the New Zealand economy and while our Kiwi bee populations are faring better than bees in many overseas countries they still need our help to protect them.
Avalon Intermediate School in Lower Hutt has won the competition, Muritai School in Lower Hutt has come second and Oaklands Primary School in Christchurch has come third.
NBA chief executive Daniel Paul says all the videos entered in the competition were of a very high quality.
“However the Avalon School entry “Flying with the Honey Makers” stood out. The quality of video and educational rap was exceptional. They have won $500 worth of garden products from Palmers Gardenworld and a prize pack from ecostore.”
Muritai School used humour and theatre in their video and Oaklands School demonstrated their learning journey about bees.
