‘Whāngaihia te reo Māori ki ngā Mātua’

Mō Te Rā o te Reo Māori 2014 i te 14 o Mahuru, ka pānuitia e Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori te kaupapa mō Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2015: ‘Whāngaihia te reo Māori ki ngā Mātua,’ arā ‘Ngā Mātua’, hei tā te Tumuākī a Glenis Philip-Barbara.

‘E whai ana mātou ki te tautoko i te whakapakaritanga o te reo o ngā mātua hei whāngai iho mā rātou ki ā rātou tamariki. Mā te whakapakari i te reo o ngā mātua, ka whai kaupapa whakapakari reo anō mō ngā uri whakaheke.’

Mā te kaupapa nei ka:

• Whai āwhina anō ki te kōrero Māori i roto i ngā kāinga noho.

• Whakatairanga i te hua o te reoruatanga.

• Whakatairanga i te tuku ihotanga o te reo.

• Akiaki i ngā whānau ki te totoro i ō rātou kaumātua mō te āhua o te reo Māori ki te kāinga i te wā i a rātou e tamariki ana.

Hei te tau 2015, ka āpiti atu te kaupapa o Te Wiki o te Reo Māori ki tērā ‘Te Kupu o te Wiki’ o tēnei tau, mā te whai i ngā rerenga kōrero e 50 puta noa i ngā wiki e 50 hei kōrerotanga mā ngā mātua. Mō ‘te wiki o te reo Māori’ ka tautoko Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori te kaupapa e ū kē ai te reo Māori ki te marea mō te tau katoa.

‘Whāngaihia te reo Māori ki ngā Mātua’

For Te Rā o te Reo Māori 2014 this September 14, or Māori Language Day, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori is pleased to announce the theme for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2015: ‘Whāngaihia te reo Māori ki ngā Mātua,’ or in short ‘Ngā Mātua’, says CE Glenis Philip-Barbara.

‘We aim to support the language development of parents who can then whāngai the language to their tamariki. By developing the language of parents, we’re establishing a firm basis for Māori language development for generations to come.’

The campaign will:

• Develop helpful guidance on the use of Māori language in the home.

• Increase awareness of the benefits of bilingualism.

• Increase awareness of how language transmission occurs.

• Encourage whānau to engage with kaumātua about how te reo Māori was used in the home when they were children.

In 2015, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori will build on the successful ‘Te Kupu o te Wiki’ campaign by developing 50 phrases over 50 weeks for parents to use. As the ‘language week’ of tangata whenua, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori will support a sustained campaign for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori that the public can engage with all year.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2015 will be held from 27 July – 2 August 2015.
