Staggering Half-Year NCEA Results at Vanguard
Over 91% of Vanguard Military Level Two students have already achieved, or are on track to achieve their NCEA Level Two qualifications, Vanguard Chief Executive Nick Hyde said today.
Mr Hyde was commenting on the latest NCEA assessment results for the 46 Vanguard students enrolled in Level Two NCEA courses under the national curriculum. 28 of these students have already achieved their Level Two qualifications with Vanguard, and a further 14 students are on track to complete the qualification later this year.
The school enrolled 25 students from other schools where they had failed their first attempt at NCEA Level One. Now, 92% of those same students have either achieved or will achieve NCEA Level One this year.
“These results really reflect the continued successes of our military-based approach to learning, and recently our results have been endorsed by NZQA through the external moderation process” Mr Hyde said.
The school’s principal, Rockley Montgomery, a former teacher at Auckland’s well-known Rangitoto College, is also delighted with the results.
“Our entire staff work incredibly hard with these students to ensure they get the best education possible. We have taken students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures from all over Auckland and we’ve turned them into high achievers who are establishing themselves for fantastic opportunities as school leavers” said Mr Montgomery.
“Already our students have been graduating with their NCEA certificates and moving into careers in the New Zealand Defence Force, apprenticeships or full time employment, which is fantastic for these kids.”
Vanguard Military School opened in February 2014 and teaches the New Zealand Curriculum including making Mathematics, English and Physical Education compulsory subjects to its current Year 11 and 12 students. It will be expanding in 2015 to teach NCEA Level Three and University Entrance with the school roll growing to 144 students. Enrolment for 2015 will begin on September the 15th and run to October the 31st, 2014.
