Make A Pledge For Adult Learners Week
Next week (8 – 14 September) is Adult Learners Week, and NorthTec is encouraging the community to join in by making a
pledge to learn.
Adults all over Northland are being encouraged to make a pledge, whether it’s about learning a new language, taking an
adult education course or joining in with a community project. It could be as simple as spending more time reading to
younger family members, and helping them to learn.
NorthTec is offering the chance for pledgers to win $100 worth of Whitcoulls vouchers, simply by visiting NorthTec’s
Facebook page and sharing details of their pledge.
There will be an Adult Learners Week display at NorthTec’s Raumanga campus library and at Forum North in Whangarei,
encouraging people to join in.
NorthTec tutors have also nominated their most inspiring adult learners, who will be presented with certificates and a
small prize to mark the occasion. Many of these are people who are combining study with significant family and community
commitments, providing inspiration and encouragement to others.
Adult Learners Week is also a great time to sign up for a NorthTec ACE (Adult Community Education) course. These are run
from NorthTec campuses and learning centres and also at community-based venues, at locations from Wellsford through to
Rāwene and Kaitaia. Some programmes are fees-free. Subjects include community computing, yoga and horticulture and
sustainable living.
