$1 million scholarship fund launched
A $1 million international scholarship fund has been launched by the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand.
The University of Waikato Excellence Scholarship for Asia will provide financial aid for pre-degree (foundation), undergraduate and postgraduate students with scholarships of up to $10,000 on offer to nearly 200 students from 12 Asian countries.
The scholarships will be awarded to students who can demonstrate academic excellence, have an average result of 80% or equivalent in their previous studies and who intend beginning their studies at the University of Waikato in 2015.
The international scholarships are available for study in any subject and any faculty and students from the following countries are eligible to apply: India, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines.
The University of Waikato is a New Zealand university ranking in the top 2% of universities worldwide and is ranked at 44 in the influential Times Higher Education Top 100 'Under 50' list. It has five subjects – Education, Modern Languages, Economics and Econometrics, Law and Computer Science and Info Systems – ranked in the top 150 in the world with Education judged 46th.
The University of Waikato has an enviable reputation among international students already, with more than 70 countries represented among the student body, with 2000 International students studying on campus.
Successful applicants will receive important financial aid while they study at one of New Zealand's most modern and innovative universities.
An International Student Barometer survey last year showed that at the University of Waikato 82% of respondents said they would recommend our university to others and more than 90% of those students surveyed were satisfied with their experience at the University of Waikato. The survey also ranked the University of Waikato 11th in the world for careers office support.
