Support from Telecom Foundation recognises the amazing success of Manaiakalani
The Innovation Partnership has welcomed the Telecom Foundation’s announcement that it is doubling its ongoing support
for the Manaiakalani Education Trust, with another $1.2 million to support digital learning programmes in several new
schools.

Manaiakalani has been vital to the pilot programme’s success, and has allowed Manaiakalani to prove the incredible
potential of digitally enabled learning.
“Manaiakalani is an excellent example of how the Internet can fundamentally transform educational outcomes,” said Mr
Sherwin.
“The Telecom Foundation’s continued and increased investment is deserved recognition of the amazing results that have
been achieved by the teachers and students of the Tamaki cluster.
“This new round of support is vital to making sure that Manaiakalani is not a one off success, but is a catalyst for
bringing digitally enabled learning to all New Zealand children.”
Research from 2013 suggests a major increase in positive student outcomes across the whole of the Tamaki cluster. This
provides rich feedback to validate and further refine Manaiakalani approaches to achieving accelerated student
achievement.
Evidence of particular improvement was noted across the cluster in writing and mathematics, together with an improvement
in Tamaki College’s 2013 NCEA Level 2 results which, at 80% achievement are well up from 26% in 2011 and 51% in 2012.
