Whanganui UCOL scholars awarded
Sixteen Whanganui UCOL students representing nine different programmes received scholarships at a ceremony at the Rutland Street campus this
week.
The successful scholars are studying across a wide range of Certificate, Diploma and Degree programmes in everything
from Contemporary Music to Nursing and Fashion to Cookery.
Whanganui UCOL Regional Programme Leader for Nursing Education and Deputy Chair of the UCOL Staff Council, Lesley
Baylis, hosted the ceremony. While congratulating the recipients, she thanked the groups in attendance as providers of
scholarships for students.
“We are extremely grateful to the groups represented here today. Without the generosity of the donors, many of our
students would not have the opportunities that are before them now. Whanganui UCOL is very fortunate in that it has a
number of committed benefactors.”
Wanganui Education Trust scholarships were presented to Anna Harbers (Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design), Ruby Fleming
(Certificate in Art and Design) and Jasmine Nixon (Bachelor of Nursing).
Bachelor of Fashion student Bailey Mason, and Deborah Christophers from the Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design were
each awarded an H & A Design and Print scholarship.
Five students were each awarded an Arthur Wheeler Leedstown Trust scholarship. The successful students were Jeremiah
Peipi (Certificate in Contemporary Music), Aimee-Lee Emery (Certificate in Business Level 4), Amber-Jane Sole (Bachelor
of Fashion), Suzanna Tuuta (Certificate in Basic Cookery Level 3), and James Graves (Bachelor of Fine Arts).
Rebecca Farr (Bachelor of Fine Arts) received the Bryan Smyth Memorial Trust scholarship, and Bachelor of Fine Arts
student Tanea Ngapeka accepted the Kate Gray Memorial Trust scholarship.
Bachelor of Fashion student Gina Stevens, currently on placement in London, was awarded a Phil-Wright Fabrics
scholarship, and Stewart Richdale (Diploma in Business Studies) took home an ANZ Bank Scholarship.
Bachelor of Nursing students Helena Pauro and Dominique Cole were each awarded Kiwibok’s Scholarships.
UCOL Deputy Chief Executive (Academic) Bonnie Dewart says she is grateful UCOL is able to connect with organisations and
individuals to offer students scholarships and awards. “As well as supporting students financially to enable ongoing
personal development, scholarships recognise excellence and achievement. They help students to achieve their full
potential to learn and contribute to their communities. Thank you again to all those who sponsor scholarships.”
