Creative Girls Creative Women
Wellington is set to host a high-level delegation of education leaders from Australasian girls’ schools this coming week
to attend a biennial education conference aimed at better understanding creativity.
The Hon Jo Goodhew, Minister of Women’s Affairs will officially open the Biennial Conference of the Alliance of Girls’
Schools Australasia in the Grand Hall, Parliament Buildings, on Sunday 25 May. Dame Jenny Shipley, a patron of the
Alliance, will give the opening keynote address.
The conference will bring together over 130 education leaders and experts. With state, Catholic and independent schools
represented this is the biggest regional gathering of educators of girls.
Titled Creative Girls Creative Women the conference will offer educators the opportunity to hear from outstanding
presenters on the topic of creativity.
Wellington educators have a lot to be proud of when it comes to producing creative young females, including guest
speaker US-based kiwi and Victoria University graduate Claudia Batten.
Through presentations, interactive discussions and debates delegates will explore creativity in business, the arts, STEM
(science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and in practical applications.
Roz Mexted, Alliance Vice-President and Principal of Westlake Girls High School says the conference will go beyond what
is happening in the classroom in terms of creativity “It will examine the shape, shifts and changes in the educational
landscape, how we think about creativity and how we teach it.”
Speakers at the conference include:
Claudia Batten, US-based serial digital media entrepreneur and Josh Bailey, one of Google’s Infrastructure Ninja’s and
self-professed radical thinker. Claudia and Josh are joining forces to share their insights on supporting creativity in
schools.
Their dynamic talk - What is creativity? - will provide insights on what creativity means, why it is so highly valued,
and how we can support creativity in schools.
Sue Lindsay, award winning business leader and a pioneer among female leaders.
Sue will speak on The Success Agenda – Lessons learned from doing life, leadership and business from the feminine
perspective.
The conference to be held at the InterContinental Wellington begins on Sunday 25 May and continues through to Tuesday 27
