First cohort of Auckland international students to graduate from Otago Polytechnic
Otago Polytechnic Auckland International Campus, in partnership with Future Skills Academy, will have its first cohort
of graduands walk across the stage and receive their qualifications this Friday, 11 April at the Auckland Town Hall.
The Auckland International Campus was established in 2012, bringing Otago Polytechnic’s highly regarded programmes to
the Auckland market for international students who wished to study in New Zealand’s largest city.
“We are delighted to see our first group of students graduate,” says Freddy Variava, Director of the International
Campus. “We have a total of 41 students graduating from our flagship programmes - the Bachelor and Graduate Diploma in
Applied Management.”
Since its inception, the International Campus has attracted students from all over the world, largely due to the work
experience component the qualifications offer.
“Internships are a key component of the programmes and count towards academic credit,” says Mr Variava. “Students are
exposed to project-based learning which is part of the unique curriculum we offer here.”
The location is also a major selling point for international students. “Auckland is a great city to be in!” says
Indonesian student Abraham Gunawan, who is graduating with a Graduate Diploma in Applied Management and will be a guest
speaker at the ceremony. “It’s beautiful, has good people and there are many things that you can do here. It’s just
awesome!”
Programmes currently on offer at the Auckland International Campus include:
• New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4)
• Bachelor of Applied Management
• Graduate Diploma in Applied Management
• Graduate Diploma in Hotel Management
