Simon Gault in Whangarei for Good Cause
Robert Johnston, who brought Simon Gault to Whangarei last year for the successful Alzheimer’s fundraiser, is in action again.
Robert is the Maître d at Simon Gault’s Euro Bar and Restaurant in Auckland and he has organized for Simon and Euro’s Head Chef, Hayden Smith, to be in Whangarei on 11th April. Again, the prime reason for the visit is fund raising, this time for Otangarei Primary School.
Robert – “My sister Leigh Barachet has been doing some volunteer reading work at this decile one school and realized they have no sports equipment and no van. Leigh and I had a wonderful upbringing in Auckland and wanted for nothing, so this situation has really impacted her. She came up with this fund raiser idea in collaboration with NorthTec. I have worked with Simon for 15 years and he is more than happy to come up and contribute.”
Simon will be visiting Otangarei Primary School on the Friday afternoon to meet with the students, answer their questions and have a sausage sizzle.
The main fundraising event is a drinks and canapé evening on the same day at 6pm at NorthTec’s purpose built commercial kitchen and restaurant, The Apprentice, at Raumanga campus.
Lisette Buckle is the Programme Leader of NorthTec Hospitality and co-ordinator for the event. “This is a fundraiser for students of the future. For the evening event our level 4 tutor, Hughie Blues, will help students prepare, set up, and serve canapés, bubbles, and beverages to the guests.”
“Then Simon Gault will come in and do a cooking demonstration tipping the classics upside down in his purpose built pod kitchen that he will set up here for the evening fund raiser.”
Tickets for this evening event will be $100 each and are available only from Otangarei School. All proceeds will go to the school towards purchase of a van.
Prior to the high profile evening event, Simon and Hayden will spend time with NorthTec Hospitality students introducing them to Molecular Gastronomy and answering questions. Lisette – “NorthTec recently purchased some Molecular Gastronomy equipment from Simon’s company Sous Chef, so this will be great introduction for our students.”
Earlier in the day on 11 April Simon Gault will be on the radio, and there is an opportunity to see him doing in-store tastings with his new Home Cuisine products at New World Supermarket in the Regent from 12 noon until 2pm.
Robert Johnston – “Last year our community raised a phenomenal $75-80,000 for Alzheimer’s. We are a fortunate and generous hearted community. Here is an opportunity to see what we can create for the Otangarei students.”
