Nathan Fa’avae to address CPIT’s biggest graduation
Adventurer Nathan Fa’avae will address CPIT’s biggest graduation yet, with 866 people graduating in person over two ceremonies at CBS Arena this Friday.
As captain, Fa’avae led the New Zealand Adventure Racing Team to victory in the World Championships in 2005 and 2012. This is just one of the reasons for which Fa’avae is known as one of the best all round adventure racers in the world and why CPIT snapped him up as guest speaker for Autumn Graduation.
He has raced in 28 countries in events that typically involve kayaking, mountain biking and running some 500 to 700km over seven days - not for the faint-hearted. Who better to inspire CPIT’s latest graduates as they put their skills to use and start their careers?
Also encouraging the attendees will be student representative and nursing graduate Rochelle Pereiro. Like many of the graduands, Pereiro started her studies just before the February 2011 earthquake. In her speech at the graduation ceremonies Pereiro will acknowledge the huge effort CPIT staff made to adjust classes, timetables and locations to get learning back on track as soon as possible.
The 866 graduates will leave the arena with certificates, diplomas and degrees across the range of study areas from engineering technology and trades to science and business. Another 734 are graduating in absentia.
The morning ceremony will see 460 people graduating from 10am and 406 will graduate in the afternoon from 2pm. By comparison, 728 people graduated at the 2013 Autumn Graduation.
