PPTA Paid Union Meeting clarification

Published: Mon 24 Mar 2014 04:50 PM
We understand there may be some confusion between upcoming PPTA paid union meetings and the meetings being held by NZEI this week.
Just to clarify, PPTA’s paid union meetings will be held from Tuesday April 8 to Thursday April 10. The key issue we are considering is the potential for the new EDUCANZ body to impose new layers of bureaucracy on teachers and remove professional autonomy, all in the guise of ‘raising the status of teaching.’
Our current position on the government’s Investing in Educational Success plan (the main topic of NZEI’s meetings) is to remain at the table and work in good faith to make sure this proposal will work effectively in secondary schools and constitute a sound investment of taxpayer money.
Individual PPTA regions are setting the times for their paid union meetings and a regional break down of these will be sent to the media once they are confirmed.
