Ministry works to secure boy’s educational
future
The Ministry of Education is working closely with Green Bay High School to secure the educational future of a boy at the centre of a legal case.
“We have been working with the Principal of Green Bay High School on the next steps for the future of this boy,” says head of sector enablement and support Katrina Casey.
“The school has been directed by the High Court to work co-operatively with the boy’s parents to ensure he can complete his education. Although the school has now appealed the court’s decision, it must still work with the boy’s parents in the meantime on the boy’s education.
“We have been in touch with the Principal and the Board Chair and offered a package of support that would help the student return to the school.
“The boy is currently receiving education through a one-on-one individual learning programme we have put together that involves curriculum learning in the morning and work experience in the afternoon. This is working well and he is settled,” says head of sector enablement and support Katrina Casey.
“We will be meeting with Green Bay High and the boy and his family over the next week to ten days to discuss the boy’s educational future.“
“Any transition back to school will need to be carefully handled. The boy’s needs must come first. Currently he is well settled and we want to ensure that any change is carefully managed in the boy’s best interests.
“The Ministry has been closely involved
with the boy’s education over a number of years.”
